Digital4Sustainability project launches digital sustainability educational profiles and core curricula

Jan 16, 2026

The Digital4Sustainability EU-funded project is proud to announce the launch of five educational profiles and accompanying core curricula that will help shape the next generation of Europe’s digital sustainability professionals.

Developed in close collaboration with industry, academia, and civil society, these profiles define the competencies needed to bridge critical skills gaps and guide organisations through the green and digital transitions.

This milestone sets the groundwork for the development of comprehensive learning programmes in 2026. The newly released curricula outline the structure, learning outcomes, and core content that training providers will be able to build on, ensuring that upcoming programmes directly respond to real labour market needs.

The five profiles are:

  • Data Analyst for Sustainability – preparing professionals to analyse sustainability data, assure data quality, and communicate insights that support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Data Professional for Sustainability – focusing on data infrastructure, advanced analytics, and the integration of digital solutions into sustainability strategies.
  • Digital Sustainability Consultant – equipping advisors to assess organisational digital sustainability maturity, identify opportunities for improvement, and design strategic roadmaps.
  • Digital Sustainability Manager – supporting managers in leading internal sustainability transformations, aligning teams, and driving organisational change.
  • Sustainability Technical Specialist – centred on hands-on implementation, including green IT practices, sustainability platform configuration, and energy monitoring systems.

Together, these profiles and curricula outline the skills and knowledge required to translate digital innovation into measurable sustainability impact. They provide a blueprint for building a workforce capable of delivering Europe’s green and digital ambitions.

Serena Dell’Agli, Digital4Sustainability project coordinator states, “This work is a cornerstone for Digital4Sustainability as it provides a flexible, modular skills framework that bridges Europe’s digital sustainability gap, transforming the professional roles that we identified in the Skills Needs Analysis into educational profiles. This work lays the foundation for the development of the piloting learning programmes which will be developed in the coming months and that will enable learners and organisations to navigate the twin green and digital transitions.”

The profiles are designed for professionals at various career stages and across sectors, from junior technical roles to senior leadership positions. They will serve as a valuable resource for education providers looking to develop new digital sustainability programmes, as well as for organisations aiming to upskill their workforce.

These efforts will address the urgent and emerging skills needs of the European industry, empowering its workforce to develop sustainable technologies that support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. By aligning closely with industry needs throughout the project, Digital4Sustainability will help European companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), achieve long-term competitiveness and growth through digital and sustainable transformation.
